Description These roof bars have been designed specifically for the tin top T3 van models as an alternative to some of the more generic kits available. The problem with most roof bars is that they always sit a little too high due to the fact that manufacturers dont make a brackets specifically for one vehicle, they create them as a kit of components with individual parts made to fit lots of different models. These have been custom made in the UK to sit at the perfect height on a tin top roof, giving enough room to secure whatever you’re carrying whilst keeping the bars as close to your roof as possible, the gap between the centre of the bar and the roof will be around 60mm giving plenty of space to stick your hand it and grab ropes or straps. The bars are constructed from a 90mm wide / 23mm thick hollow aluminium extrusion making them very strong but also lightweight, and with a tough matt black coating to reduce slippage. The cross bars feature a T-Slot on the top and bottom so if you want to attach accessories you can do so with without drilling holes, no special fixings are required as the slot accepts a standard M8 (13mm – AF/SW) set screw or bolt head. There are also a couple of holes near the ends of the bar so there is no need to remove the end caps, bolt heads can be simply dropped into the slot and slid into place. Bars are supplied with a plastic end cap fitted to each end to finish off the bars perfectly. Price is for one bar and two feet, to allow you to order as many as you need. Fitting is simple and requires only a spanner and allen key. Please note – as the fittings are stainless steel over tightening them will result in the material Galling causing the components to seize together, we suggest lightly greaseing the fittings. This isn’t a warranty issue and replacement components will be chargeable. You don’t need to tighten the fixings excessively. Yes, they will fit single and double can pick ups too. No, we don’t have any testing certificates for them but, they are more than strong enough to cope with the meagre roof load ratings from VW. VW list maximum roof load for van models as up to 100kg (dependent on model) and 75kg for double cab, VW do not list a roof load for single cabs (that we can find) To use these bars with a roof box will mean drilling the roof box and using suitable washers on the inside to spread the load. The bars are around 1.4m long.
